What's On at the Lyric Theatre, London

The Lyric Theatre, built in 1888, was the second theatre to be built on the West End’s Shaftesbury Avenue and is the oldest still surviving. Built across four levels holding around 900 seats, this Grade II listed building is currently home to the award-winning musical Hadestown, where it made its West End premiere.

Other West End premieres include Blood Brothers, which also won the Olivier for best new musical. The Lyric Theatre has always pulled in the biggest stars and shows, including Sir Ian McKellen, Dame Judy Dench, Brendan Fraser, Frances del la Tour, Woody Harelson, and Michael Ball. Shows have included Cat On A Hot Tin Roof, Thriller – Live, Six, Get Up! Stand Up!, and a revival of Aspects of Love.

In the 2000’s the theatre changed hands twice, eventually being bought by Nimax Theatres in 2005. Originally built to house operetta’s, the Lyric now has a glorious history of drama, plays, comedies, musicals, and melodramas. You can book tickets online below for the Lyric Theatre.
