Pauline started as a singer doing the working mens clubs then she progressed into the world of stand up comedy and was the only woman to appear on Granada TV’s The Comedians, many TV shows followed including Central TV Saturday Royal and the chat show which was Wogan, with Bob Hope.
In 1986 she ventured on to the “legitimate” stage and then she became one of Merseyside’s favourite theatrical daughters and has played some amazing characters from “Helen Forrester” in “Twopence to Cross the Mersey” to “Annie Wilkes” in “Misery” , from “Mama Morton” in “Chicago” to “Mama Rose” in “Gypsy” and is one of Willy Russell’s favourites having played “Betty” in “Breezeblock Park”, “Mrs Kay” in “Our Day Out” and she remains Willy’s favourite as housewife “Shirley Valentine”. One of the most iconic women ever, took her to London when she played “Mae West” in the West End.
Pauline was in the cast who reopened the new Everyman with Matthew Kelly in Twelfth Night. and was part of the Everyman Rep in 2017, her acting TV Credits include, Bread, Brookside, The Street, DOA and Blue Murder. She has sung with the Liverpool Philharmonic and she even appeared on Songs of Praise singing How Great The Art at Goodison Park.
She has starred in Pantos galore, usually playing the baddie. She has helped and nurtured actors, directors, light and sound technicians in her small theatre which she ran in Liverpool for nearly 10 years.
In 2011 she was commissioned by Trinity Mirror to write her autobiography “Stand Up and Be Counted” the foreword of which was written by “the governor “ Sir Ken Dodd and at the back of the book an amazing tribute to her talent by Willy Russell.
Her work now is different as the clubland circuit has gone but she is much sought after as an Awards Host, a compère and a speaker at many lunches and dinners. She is also a favourite with CMV cruises as she performs her own one woman show for the guests which combines all her talents as an actress, a singer and a very funny lady.
She was a radio presenter on BBC radio Merseyside and has just starred in A radio spectacular to celebrate 50 years of the station and their receiving of the Freedom of The City of Liverpool, a truly amazing honour.
Pauline still presents radio programmes on several local stations.
She was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2013 and in her own inimitable way has made it acceptable to smile about in her act, she’s hailed as an inspiration, so what better way to wear her badge than to go on tour in the new musical of Calendar Girls written by Tim Firth and Gary Barlow so that’s what she will be doing along with Fern Britten, Denise Welsh, and Sarah Crowe to name a few of her fellow cast members.
