Joan As Police Woman

Joan As Police Woman

Described by The Guardian as having “a voice so wondrous and moving that it makes everyone else’s seem ordinary and mundane”, highly acclaimed Connecticut songwriter Joan Wasser returns to Europe performing key songs from throughout her career alongside new music.

Joan's voice, in all its metamorphic splendour, is carried by her piano and strings, complemented by soul superstar Meshell Ndegeocello on bass, Chris Bruce on guitar, Daniel Mintseris on keys, and Parker Kindred and Otto Hauser taking turns on the drums.

In 1997 when her  boyfriend of three years, musician Jeff Buckley, drowned accidentally in Memphis Wasser created a band with the remaining members of his band called Black Beetle and finished an eponymous album that was never released.

She also continued to play with Those Bastard Souls, a band started in 1995 by a close friend of the couple before joining Antony and the Johnsons, initially as a violinist in 1999, and eventually as a full-time member.

It was with the end of Black Beetle in 2002 that her work as a solo artist and the creation of a new band, Joan as Police Woman, came about.
