Ellis Murphy

Ellis Murphy

A breath of fresh air for the Modern Merseyside Music scene; Ellis Murphy has amassed a cult following with his timeless brand of story telling, through his songs that are both current and fresh but also reminiscent of a time when troubadours were the voice of a generation.

Born in Liverpool in 2004, Ellis Murphy spent most of his childhood in a theatre, on a stage. This is evident within his recent live performances which notably adopt theatrical elements (when there is a band backing Ellis). Another notable element of the live performances is the heavy influence of early English, Irish, Scottish, Welsh and American Folk music, which is most evident during the solo acoustic performances.

Reference to beat poets such as Allen Ginsburg and Jack Kerouac, Punk Poets like John Cooper Clarke, Shane MacGowan and playwrights such as William Shakespeare, Willy Russell, Oscar Wilde and Owen Sheers, (of whom are just some examples) all play a part in the creative process for Ellis, be it writing or performing live.
